The classic Indian movie starring Telugu superstar Nagarjuna and Tamil actress Saritha. It's a remake of the Tamil blockbuster "Aegan" from 1985. It was shot in 1986 at the height of the glory days of cinema in India. Starring Rajnikant, it became a blockbuster success running to packed houses for 30 weeks at a stretch in Chennai's largest theater, Broadway theatre. It was a turning point for Indian cinema when star-driven films headlined by Rajnikant and his contemporaries emerged as powerful commercial entities propelling to stardom the likes of Kamal Haasan, Mammooty and Mohanlal who established themselves as box office draws across several regional cinemas. It was the beginning of the big budget films, dubbed versions of successful films, franchise films, film series and sequels. It was the beginning of the end for cinema as a popular art form that evolved with little commercialization of story-lines or characters. It is a road movie involving an impromptu journey across towns and villages in rural Andhra Pradesh. Seema (Saritha) takes off on a mysterious trip with her lover Nagarjuna to hometown of Gatimedu village to see her mother. Seema had left her hometown four years ago to escape from her alcoholic husband (Raiprakash). It is a journey of self-discovery for Seema who leaves Nagarjuna midway to go back to her husband. The rest of the film is about how Seema returns to her husband, the ups and downs in the lives of Seema and Raiprakash, reunion with Nagarjuna and finally making peace with life. This was the first film that launched Telugu superstar Nagarjuna as a star that made him a household name across Andhra Pradesh. This film gave him a splendid start to his career and brought him the nickname "Nagarjuna". This is a remake of the Tamil blockbuster "Aegan" from 1985, directed by K. Balachander and starring Rajinikanth and Saritha. The film was dubbed into Telugu as "Rajni" (English: Prince). As the Telugu version is based on the original Tamil film, it has similarities with that as well as differences between both versions for screenplay, screenplay, dialogue and dialogues. The Telugu title 'Rajni' was derived from the Tamil original which means "Prince". The director of the film, Balachander, named Rajni as Prince since he was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. The name stuck and became synonymous to Rajnikant – the superstar whom Balachander launched as a star. The Telugu remakes of other films starring Rajinikanth and directed by Balachander also got similar prefixes – "Chinna" meaning "younger" and "Babu" meaning the same in Telugu. The Tamil version was very much close to the original with additional song sequences shot especially to accommodate Saritha's screen presence along with romantic songs picturised on Dharmavarapu Subramanyam, then a popular comedian actor. cfa1e77820
